Lifestyle Communities

Lifestyle communities used to simply mean you were retired and lived on a golf course. However, today's definition of a lifestyle community involves much more than simply a round of 9 or 18 holes.

With an active aging population, lifestyle communities have been developed to provide a sense of familiarity with your neighbors, while at the same time providing the solace and solitude you desire. Fast friendships almost always form due to common interests, relative ease of access for social events, and through planned community gatherings.

More than simple housing, lifestyle communities incorporate daily and weekly activities, continuing education courses, and frequent outings to a variety of destinations for the community's residents. Symphony events, ballet performances, local theater productions, museum tours, art gallery openings, scenic drives, professional sporting events, and visits to area casinos top the list of requested activities by lifestyle community residents. All are usually accomplished with group transportation provided by the community's recreation director.

Lifestyle communities today also help focus attention on the physical activities of their residents' daily regimen. A wide range of recreational amenities is typically provided to satisfy resident interests such as: hiking, biking trails, tennis, swimming, water aerobics, pilates, dance classes, and weekly walks in local parks.

When not being used for recreational classes, recreation facilities double as a venue for group social events with other lifestyle community residents. Computer classes, craft sessions, health and nutrition courses all happen in these facilities. A wide range of social events such as movie nights, gaming tournaments, and in house performances by local musicians also fill the schedule of the recreation facilities and residents.

The most frequent misconception is that accommodations providing the services listed above cost a small fortune. While the cost of housing is extremely important and plays a major factor in the decision making process, most people are surprised at the value they receive in reputable lifestyle communities. And since most retirees don't want a monthly house mortgage or enjoy paying high property taxes in their golden years, lifestyle communities are the perfect solution for this conundrum.

Since developers are well aware of the individuality of each retiree, lifestyle communities typically offer multiple building plans ranging from villas, condominiums, town homes self standing individual homes within a planned development, as well as modular or manufactured homes, all with beautiful landscaping that is maintained by lifestyle community staff.
